Jun 12, 2010:  Leadership Academy Seminar

Three of the premier Asian professional organizations of Southern California presented a day of leadership development workshops and networking at the Doubletree Hotel, Anaheim/Orange County.

 

The event had over 70 attendees including 12 people representing ASEI. The three hosting organizations were American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin Southern California (ASEI SoCal), the Chinese-American Engineers and Scientists Association of Southern California (CESASC), and the National Association of Asian American Professionals Orange County (NAAAP-OC). The following three acclaimed speakers in their respective industries made presentations on leadership skills:

  1. Dr. Vu Pham (Consultant, Spectrum Knowledge Inc.) - "Impressive First Impressions"
  2. Mohan Ganapathy, (Chief Technology Officer, Farmers Insurance Group) - "Effective Communication"
  3. Dr. Charlie Sie,  (Consultant, Aviva Systems Biology, former VP at Xerox) - "A Life of Learning and Surviving"

 

In addition to the above speakers, several sponsors listed below provided additional services:

  • Dale Carnegie provided highly interactive exercises on leadership skills
  • Prudential Financial Inc. provided 1)free resume critiques, 2)career planning guidance, and 3)offered job opportunities within Prudential

In addition to above, several raffle prizes were given out.  Amazingly, ASEI members won many of the raffle prizes. Below are  the names of winner with their prizes!

  • Nehal Patel- Dale Carnegie Course (valued at $1700)
  • Venkatacha Parameswaran -  Apple iPAD (valued at over $500)
  • Krish Krishnamurty - One Registration to 2010 ASEI Convention (valued at $100)

May 16-17, 2010:  JPL Open House

Several ASEI members and families attended the 2010 JPL Open House in Pasadena, CA.

 

This popular event celebrates JPL's accomplishments with exhibits and demonstrations about the Laboratory's ongoing research and space exploration. Many of the Lab's scientists and engineers are on hand to answer questions about how spacecraft are sent to other planets, how scientists utilize space technologies to explore Earth and how researchers are searching for planets beyond the solar system.    

 

May 2, 2010:  TECHNICAL TALK - "Global Technology Strategy"

Naveen Hussain, an executive from Boeing, spoke about the global technology strategy of Boeing and other US firms in India. This was followed by a great networking lunch. Over 30 ASEI members/friends attended the event. ASEI was also honored to have several members of the National Association of Asian American Professional society in attendance.

 

In his talk, Naveed discussed how Boeing’s enterprise technology strategy has led to partnering with some of the best research agencies, universities, and companies in India and around the world. He discussed the various technology alliances in India to develop wireless and other network technologies, advanced materials, aero structures, and advanced aerodynamics tools. Naveed provided great insights on how India is embracing the technology partnerships with global corporations. Check out the photo gallery from this event at the ASEI SoCal homepage.

 

April 24, 2010:  COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT- REBUILDING TOGETHER

Several ASEI SoCal members volunteered to help rebuild a mobile home park community for senior citizens in the city of Orange. This event was sponsored by the Boeing Company. Over 350 people volunteered for this event!

 

Mar 5-7, 2010:  COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT- AERO DESIGN WEST 2010 COMPETITION

Several ASEI members volunteered to help with the various activities of the AeroDesign West 2010 Competition. The event was hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers. ASEI members participate every year in this exciting event where various varieties of model aircraft compete for prizes.

 

January 31, 2010:  TECHNICAL TALK - "Globalization and Innovation in India & Beyond"

Two prominent business consultants- Gunjan Bagla and R. Sampath spoke about Globalization and Innovation in India and Beyond.

 

Mr. Gunjan Bagla's topic was "Can Indians Innovate?".  He discussed current trends in India's R&D as it relates to Globalization and what it means to your career in United States.

 

Mr. R. Sampath's topic was "Globalization for Techies: India and Beyond." He provided an interactive session on trends and opportunities to leverage globalization in the technology and engineering domains.

December 19, 2009:  COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT- SEAL BEACH CLEAN-UP

Several ASEI SoCal members volunteered to help clean-up the Seal Beach area in partnership with saveourbeach.org. Check out the photo gallery section (bottom of home page) to see ASEI members at work!

November 14, 2009:  "RE-ENGAGE THE MEMBERSHIP" NETWORKING EVENT

Over 140 ASEI members and families gathered to network, share accomplishments of ASEI SoCal, have dinner, and enjoy entertainment. The event started at 7pm and ended at 11pm. A speaking engagement during the event included an overview of ASEI, business networking success stories, and status on a sanitation project. In addition to all this, raffle prizes were also given out to some lucky members.  Please visit the photo gallery section (bottom of home page) for lots of photographs of event. 05-03-09:  TECHNICAL TALK - " A Unique Experience: Insights on India's Engineering

                                                             Accreditation  Processes"

Dr. Raman Unnikrishnan, Dean of Engineering & Computer Science at CSUF, shared his experiences as an ABET mentor appointee to India to examine the accreditation processes for supporting India's inclusion into the Washigton Accord.
